I have been writing a book on the Trinity since mid-December. My goal was to have it completed and available on Amazon today because today is Trinity Sunday. I almost reached my goal. The files have been uploaded to Amazon, but it’s scheduled to be released next Sunday, June 7. Here are a couple paragraphs from the final chapter.
The doctrine of the Trinity reveals that God is other-centered. The Father gave all he had to his beloved Son—he “placed everything in his hands” (Jn 3:35) so Jesus says, “All that belongs to the Father is mine” (16:15). And the Son withholds nothing from his loving Father. He tells the Father, “All I have is yours” (17:10). Moreover, the Son imitates his Father—only doing what he sees his Father doing and only speaking his Father’s words. Hence, anyone who has seen the Son has seen the Father (14:9). What about the Spirit? The Spirit is focused on the Son. He enabled Mary to conceive Jesus. He empowered Jesus for his mission. And he reminds the disciples of the Son’s words (14:26), testifies about the Son (15:36), and makes known to the disciples what he receives from the Son (16:15). How does the Son feel about the Spirit? The Son passionately defends the Spirit—no one should speak a word against the Holy Spirit (Mt 12:31–32). Moreover, the Father and the Spirit know each other’s minds or thoughts (Rom 8:27; 1 Cor 2:11). Each divine person is constantly thinking about the others. Hence, God is “a Trinity of Persons united in the greatest possible love.”[1]
In addition, God’s immutability means Father, Son, and Spirit have always been other-centered. The three divine persons didn’t start getting along at a certain point. The Holy Trinity has always existed and will always exist in complete love and harmony. This means love has no beginning and love has no end.
