David Wilkerson Blasts Prosperity Gospel

The prosperity gospel teaches that God wants all Christians to be healthy and wealthy. To activate the financial and physical blessings, believers need to have faith and make positive declarations. This false teaching comes from the Word of Faith movement, which ultimately stems from New Thought teaching. None of it is biblical, but it uses Christian language. I have written a post on the prosperity gospel here.

I have listened to several critiques of the prosperity gospel, but none more intense than David Wilkerson’s message below. Wilkerson (1931-2011) was a pastor in New York City for many years. He was known for his direct and piercing sermons. Some even believed he had the gift of prophecy. I don’t know the year this message was delivered, but he must have been in Canada at the time. The audio quality is not great, but hopefully you can still understand most of it.
